Call for proposals 2024

Dear Professor, dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
The IZKF Jochen Kalden funding programme aims to support promising young scientists to build up and establish their own working group as soon as possible. The aim is to structurally strengthen at least one main research area of the Faculty of Medicine, in order to give the funded person a leading role to enable local association applications and the acquisition of significant third-party funding for the location.
Eligible to apply are
- Newly appointed W1/ integrated W2 or W3 professors with tenure track or a comparable option of tenure at the Faculty of Medicine,
- who have already started their professorship in Erlangen at the time of the application,
- whose doctorate was no more than 8 years ago (natural scientists) or 10 years (medical professionals), based on the application deadline for the professorship occupied, times of childcare within these deadlines are credited as a lump sum – that means without proof of actual childcare periods – women: counted with two years per child, men: counted with one year per child. Additional times for childcare for men and women can be taken into account if proof is provided, for men and women
- whose start of employment at the time of the application was no more than 1 year ago (for those who were previously employed in Erlangen) or no longer than 2 years (for those who were newly appointed to Erlangen)
- and who do not yet have significant funding for junior research groups (e.g. Heisenberg, Emmy-Noether, Max-Eder-Group etc.).
The review of the applications takes place in a one-step process by the IZKF management board together with the junior scientist committee and the ELAN commission and with participation of the scientific advisory board of the IZKF.
IZKF funding
Personnel and consumables in the amount of one doctoral candidate (65% E13), 1 TA and € 40,000 p.a. as flexible funding over a period of 2 years; If an application for third-party funding is submitted to a funding provider that is at least twice LOM-weighted, an additional project year is granted. For doctoral candidates at the IZKF, there is an obligation to participateThe following documents are to be submitted:

- Confirmation of basic equipment from the head of the facility (clinic, institute, department) (stating whether the applicant has laboratory capacity and access to the necessary equipment)
There is an annual call for proposals in autumn; the selection decision is based on the written application and an interview during the colloquium. Applications for the current call must be submitted by November 01, 2024 using the new application tool (FlexAP).
